Strengthen anti-corruption measures or watch the Union wither away
The ongoing parliamentary scandal, with Socialist MEP Eva Kaili having abused her position and engaged in corruption for something as banal as making money, on-top of her comfortable salary and allowance as an MEP, has shown that we need a fundamental rethink of this vital institution of European democracy.
For weeks, we have watched as the Ukrainian military mounted a heroic defence of their country. Ukraine is fighting off an army that vastly outnumbers them, and who due to their continuous failures, have been forced to rely on destroying entire cities in order to beat Ukraine into submission with indiscriminate shelling.
Exactly 7 years, 11 months and 10 days after Russia invaded Ukraine, using masked and unmarked Russian troops to invade and annex Crimea, we are once again watching the same thing happen.
